ABOUT SOTLAN

The Society of Testing Laboratory Analysts (SOTLAN) is the Association of Public Analysts in Nigeria. The association provides a platform for members to relate together, and work towards improvement on services, explore global opportunities and certification for members among others.

We are non-governmental organisation and membership is open to interested analytical laboratory analysts from any part of the country.

The public Analysts are registered members of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeri (IPAN) and our members engage in the testing of consumer’s products, chemicals, solid minerals, environmental media, medical devices, water and wastewater, petroleum and petroleum products, e.t.c

Public Analysts are also trained and registered to support forensic studies, toxicological assessment, veterinary drug residue and public health concerns among others.

EVOLUTION OF SoTLAN

Society of Testing Laboratory Analysts of Nigeria (SoTLAN) started as the Society of Public Analyst of Nigeria (SPAN), taking after the Association of Public Analysts in 1983 as society of government chemists (officers that are responsible for certification of products and substances in Nigeria). The organisation later metamorphosed to become the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) and obtained Charter in 1992 by Decree 100 of the same year (now CAP LFN I16 of 2004). In a bid to better position the analysts, the professional arm of the Institute of IPAN was registered as SoTLAN in 2015 leaving IPAN with the exclusive responsibility of regulating the practice of Public Analysts, laboratory registration and accreditation of courses leading to qualification as Public Analysts in Nigeria.
